Production function given technology पर inputs से maximum technically feasible output का संबंध है। Short run में कम-से-कम एक input fixed; long run में सभी inputs adjustable—calendar months से definition नहीं बनती।

Average and Marginal Product

Input productivity schedule में total, per-worker और extra-worker contribution अलग करें।

APₗ = TP/L; MPₗ = ΔTP/ΔL (smooth case: dTP/dL)

Worked example: L = 4 पर TP = 52; fifth worker MP = 8 → TP₅ = 60; AP₅ = 60/5 = 12।

Interpretation: Fifth worker की contribution 8 और average contribution 12 अलग हैं।
