Syllabus connection: uploaded UP PGT syllabus के Consumer Behaviour में consumer surplus explicitly है।
Willingness to Pay (WTP)
| Measure | Meaning | Units |
|---|---|---|
| Consumer surplus | Gross benefit minus actual expenditure | ₹ |
| Total utility (TU) | Cardinal utility model की total satisfaction | Utils, जब तक money conversion न दी हो |
Marshallian/cardinal measurement के usual assumptions: rational consumer, diminishing marginal utility, monetary utility measurement या stated conversion, marginal utility of money approximately constant, relevant demand/other conditions held constant।
Discrete units: CS = Σ marginal WTPᵢ − Pn।
MU in utils, constant λ utils per ₹: money benefit = TU/λ; CS = TU/λ − PQ।
Continuous inverse demand: CS = ∫₀Q* PD(q)dq − P*Q*।
Linear inverse demand P=a−bQ: Q*=(a−P*)/b; CS=½(a−P*)Q*=½bQ*²।
Direct demand Q=A−BP: choke price=A/B; CS=½(A/B−P*)Q*=Q*²/(2B)।
Same downward demand और other conditions fixed हों, तो price cut से दो benefits मिलते हैं: पुरानी units पर कम payment, तथा extra units खरीदने का surplus।
ΔCS = (P₀−P₁)Q₀ + ½(P₀−P₁)(Q₁−Q₀) for linear demand।
Equivalent: ΔCS = ½(Q₀+Q₁)(P₀−P₁)।
General ordinary-demand change at fixed income: ΔCS = ∫P₁P₀ Q(p,m)dp।
Locally dCS/dP = −Q(P), where the measure is well-defined।
यह change in CS है; old या new level of CS से अलग है। Price rise में loss निकालने के लिए positive price increase और old/new quantities का trapezium area लें।
4. Consumer, Producer और Total Surplus
| Measure | Formula / area | Trap |
|---|---|---|
| Producer surplus (PS) | Producer receipts minus variable cost; price के नीचे, marginal-cost supply के ऊपर | PS−fixed cost=economic profit, relevant cost model में। |
| Total surplus (TS) | No policy: CS+PS | Consumer और producer transfers double-count न करें। |
| Tax case | TS=CS+PS+tax revenue | Tax revenue स्वयं deadweight loss नहीं। |
Standard competitive partial-equilibrium surplus result में no externalities, no extra distributional weights और supply as marginal cost assume करें।
Per-unit tax t में Pc−Pp=t। Linear curves में tax DWL=½t(Q₀−Qt)।
Price ceiling / rationing
यदि highest-WTP consumers को पहले goods मिलें (efficient rationing), integral up to actual Q use करें। Random allocation में अलग CS; shortage के time/queue costs भी अलग होंगे। Numerical22 में stated efficient-rationing assumption देखें।
Expenditure function e(p,u) = given prices p दो prices vectors p₀,p₁; money income m unchanged; initial utility u₀=v(p₀,m), new utility u₁=v(p₁,m)।
| Question | CV: Compensating Variation | EV: Equivalent Variation |
|---|---|---|
| Price rise से welfare loss | New prices पर कितनी money दें कि old utility वापस मिल जाए? CVloss=e(p₁,u₀)−m |
Old prices पर कितनी money लें कि consumer new lower utility पर आ जाए? EVloss=m−e(p₀,u₁) |
| Price fall से welfare gain | New prices पर कितनी money वापस ली जा सकती है, old utility बनाए रखते हुए? CVgain=m−e(p₁,u₀) |
Old prices पर कितना पैसा देना new higher utility के बराबर है? EVgain=e(p₀,u₁)−m |
Memory: CV = Change के बाद compensation, original utility target; EV = Earlier prices पर equivalent new utility।
Single-price change, fixed income और good पूरी relevant range में normal हो: price rise के loss magnitudes में CV ≥ ordinary CS loss ≥ EV; price fall के gain magnitudes में EV ≥ ordinary CS gain ≥ CV।
x=m/(2p), y=m/2; v(p,m)=m/(2√p)।
e(p,u)=2u√p; Hicksian xh=∂e/∂p=u/√p।
Quasilinear example: u=v(x)+y, py=1, interior y।
v′(x)=p; x independent of income ⇒ CV=EV=|ΔCS|, corresponding gain/loss magnitudes में।
Constant-elasticity demand Q=AP−E, E>1 में CS=PQ/(E−1)।
6. Economists, year और publication ⭐
| Economist | Year | Book / paper | Contribution |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jules Dupuit | 1844 | De la mesure de l’utilité des travaux publics — “On the Measurement of the Utility of Public Works” | Willingness-to-pay और public-works benefit measurement का early formulation। |
| Alfred Marshall | 1890 | Principles of Economics, Book III, Chapter VI | Consumer surplus की systematic monetary/utility treatment और popularisation। |
| J. R. Hicks | 1943 | “The Four Consumer’s Surpluses”, The Review of Economic Studies 11(1), 31–41 | Ordinal welfare approach में अलग consumer-surplus measures का systematic analysis। 1943 paper को हर Hicksian idea की first-ever invention year न कहें। |
Memory: “Dupuit 1844 → Marshall 1890 → Hicks के Four Surpluses 1943।” Theory/history question में original year और linked reprint year अलग रखें।
7. 30 Book-style Solved Numericals
Numericals1–8: Basics, Utility and Linear Demand
दिया गया (Given): Total WTP=₹500; actual payment=₹350।
CS = total willingness to pay − actual payment।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: CS = ₹500 − ₹350।
- Step 2: CS = ₹150।
Numerical 2: Money-valued MU table
दिया गया (Given): Marginal WTP: 50,40,30,20; P=₹20; n=4।
Total WTP=ΣWTPᵢ; expenditure=Pn; CS=ΣWTPᵢ−Pn।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Total WTP = 50+40+30+20 = ₹140।
- Step 2: Actual expenditure = 20×4 = ₹80।
- Step 3: CS = 140−80 = ₹60।
(Given): WTP list:60,45,30,15; P=25; no other purchase constraint।
खरीदें जब marginal WTP≥P; CS=chosen units की total WTP−Pn।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: First three WTPs60,45,30 price25 से ज्यादा हैं; fourth WTP15<25। इसलिए n=3।
- Step 2: Chosen total WTP = 60+45+30 = ₹135।
- Step 3: Payment = 25×3 = ₹75; CS = 135−75 = ₹60।
उत्तर (Final answer): Optimal quantity3 units; CS₹60।
दिया गया (Given): MU list12,10,8,6 utils; λ=2 utils/₹; P=₹3; Q=4।
TU=ΣMU; monetary benefit=TU/λ; CS=TU/λ−PQ।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: TU = 12+10+8+6 = 36 utils।
- Step 2: Total benefit in ₹ = 36/2 = ₹18।
- Step 3: Expenditure = 3×4 = ₹12; CS = 18−12 = ₹6।
- Step 4: Last-unit MU6 utils = λP=2×3; units consistent
प्रश्न (Question): Continuous TU(Q)=24Q−Q² utils; constant λ=2 utils/₹।
दिया गया (Given): TU=24Q−Q²; λ=2; P=4; continuous Q≥0।
MU=dTU/dQ; interior choice में MU=λP; CS=TU/λ−PQ।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: MU=24−2Q। Equate:24−2Q=2×4=8 ⇒ Q=8। TU curvature−2<0 से choice maximum है।
- Step 2: TU(8)=24×8−8²=192−64=128 utils। Monetary benefit=128/2=₹64।
- Step 3: Payment=4×8=₹32। CS=64−32=₹32।
Numerical 6: Linear inverse demand का triangle
प्रश्न (Question): Demand P=100−2Q है। Market price₹40 है। Quantity और CS निकालिए।
दिया गया (Given): Inverse demand P=100−2Q; P*=40; choke price100।
Q*=(a−P*)/b; CS=½(a−P*)Q*।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: 40=100−2Q ⇒ 2Q=60 ⇒ Q*=30।
- Step 2: Triangle height=100−40=60; base=30।
- Step 3: CS=½×60×30=₹900।
Numerical 7: Direct demand में choke price
प्रश्न (Question): Demand Q=120−3P है। Price₹20 है। Consumer surplus निकालिए।
दिया गया (Given): Direct demand Q=120−3P; P*=20।
Choke price=A/B; Q*=A−BP*; CS=½(P_choke−P*)Q*।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Q=0 ⇒ 0=120−3P ⇒ choke price=40।
- Step 2: Q*=120−3×20=60।
- Step 3: CS=½×(40−20)×60=₹600। Check:Q²/(2B)=3600/6=600।
Competitive equilibrium, CS,PS और TS निकालिए; no externalities।
दिया गया (Given): Demand intercept80; supply intercept20; supply marginal cost है।
Equilibrium:P_D=P_S; CS=½(80−P*)Q*; PS=½(P*−20)Q*; TS=CS+PS।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: 80−2Q=20+Q ⇒ 3Q=60 ⇒ Q*=20; P*=40।
- Step 2: CS=½×(80−40)×20=₹400।
- Step 3: PS=½×(40−20)×20=₹200।
- Step 4: TS=400+200=₹600।
Numericals9–15: Price Change and Demand Recovery
Numerical 9: Price cut: rectangle + triangle
Old CS,new CS और CS gain निकालिए।
दिया गया (Given): P₀=40,P₁=20; inverse demand P=60−Q।
CS(P)=½(60−P)Q; gain=price reduction×old Q +½×price reduction×extra Q।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Q₀=60−40=20; Q₁=60−20=40।
- Step 2: Old CS=½×20×20=200; new CS=½×40×40=800।
- Step 3: Gain=800−200=₹600।
- Step 4: Decomposition: old units saving20×20=400; extra units surplus½×20×20=200; total600।
(Final answer): Old CS₹200; new CS₹800; gain₹600।
CS loss
दिया गया (Given): P₀=20,P₁=30; choke price50; Q₀=60,Q₁=40।
CS=½(50−P)Q; linear loss=½(Q₀+Q₁)(P₁−P₀)।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Old CS=½×(50−20)×60=₹900।
- Step 2: New CS=½×(50−30)×40=₹400।
- Step 3: Loss=900−400=₹500; trapezium check½×(60+40)×10=500।
- Step 4: Retained units extra payment10×40=400; discontinued units lost surplus½×10×20=100।
उत्तर (Final answer): CS loss=₹500; new CS₹400।
(Given): a=50,b=1; CS=200; nonnegative feasible quantity।
Linear CS=½bQ² ⇒ Q=√(2CS/b); P=a−bQ।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: 200=½Q² ⇒ Q²=400।
- Step 2: Economically relevant root Q=20; negative root reject करें।
- Step 3: P=50−20=₹30।
Numerical 12: Missing demand equation
प्रश्न (Question): Linear inverse demand P=a−bQ है। At price₹20,quantity30 और CS₹450 है। a,b और demand equation निकालिए।
दिया गया (Given): P*=20,Q*=30,CS=450; demand linear।
CS=½(a−P*)Q*; b=(a−P*)/Q*।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: 450=½(a−20)×30 ⇒ a−20=30 ⇒ a=50।
- Step 2: b=(50−20)/30=1।
- Step 3: Demand P=50−Q; check atQ30 price20 और CS½×30×30=450।
उत्तर (Final answer): a=50,b=1; inverse demand P=50−Q।
(Given): Same choke price100 and same actual price40; inverse slopes2 and4।
Q=(a−P)/b; CS=(a−P)²/(2b)।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Demand1:Q₁=60/2=30; CS₁=½×60×30=900।
- Step 2: Demand2:Q₂=60/4=15; CS₂=½×60×15=450।
- Step 3: First curve की inverse slope कम, chosen quantity ज्यादा और CS double है।
(Final answer): CS₁₹900 > CS₂₹450, given common intercept and price।
प्रश्न (Question): Consumer A की inverse demand P=10−q_A और B की P=20−2q_B है। Uniform price₹2 है। Total market CS निकालिए।
(Given): P=2; both consumers active; quantities nonnegative।
Individual CS triangles निकालकर sum करें; market demand horizontal summation है।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: A:2=10−q_A ⇒ q_A=8; CS_A=½×(10−2)×8=32।
- Step 2: B:2=20−2q_B ⇒ q_B=9; CS_B=½×(20−2)×9=81।
- Step 3: Total quantity=8+9=17; aggregate CS=32+81=₹113।
Numerical 15: Piecewise market demand: inactive buyer
प्रश्न (Question): A की q_A=max(30−P,0),B की q_B=max(20−P,0)। At P₹10 औरP₹25 market CS compare करें।
(Given): Demand quantities cannot be negative; P=10 then25।
CS_i=½(choke price_i−P)q_i for active buyer; inactive buyer CS0।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: P10:A quantity20,CS½×20×20=200; B quantity10,CS½×10×10=50। TotalQ30,CS250।
- Step 2: P25:A quantity5,CS½×5×5=12.5; B quantity0,CS0। TotalQ5,CS12.5।
- Step 3: Market demand Q=50−2P only P≤20 पर; 20≤P≤30 में Q=30−P।
उत्तर (Final answer): At P10:market CS₹250। At P25:market CS₹12.50।
Numericals16–22: Calculus, Tax and Rationing
Numerical 16: Curved inverse demand: integration
प्रश्न (Question): Inverse demand P=90−Q² है। Price₹54 है। Quantity और consumer surplus निकालिए।
दिया गया (Given): P=90−Q²; P*=54; continuous nonnegative Q।
CS=∫₀Q* (90−q²)dq−P*Q*।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: 54=90−Q² ⇒ Q²=36 ⇒ Q*=6।
- Step 2: Gross benefit=[90q−q³/3]₀⁶=540−72=₹468।
- Step 3: Expenditure=54×6=₹324।
- Step 4: CS=468−324=₹144।
दिया गया (Given): Demand P=60−2√Q; P*=40।
∫√q dq=(2/3)q^(3/2); CS=∫₀Q P(q)dq−PQ।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: 40=60−2√Q ⇒ √Q=10 ⇒ Q=100।
- Step 2: Gross benefit=[60q−(4/3)q^(3/2)]₀¹⁰⁰=6000−4000/3=14000/3।
- Step 3: Payment=40×100=4000=12000/3।
- Step 4: CS=(14000−12000)/3=2000/3≈₹666.67।
Numerical 18: Constant elasticity E>1: shortcut और integral
प्रश्न (Question): Demand Q=3600/P² है। Price₹20 है। Consumer surplus निकालिए।
(Given): A=3600,E=2,P*=20; demand globally specified for positive P।
For E>1:CS=PQ/(E−1); inverse P=60/√Q।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Q*=3600/20²=3600/400=9।
- Step 2: Shortcut:CS=20×9/(2−1)=₹180।
- Step 3: Integral check:∫₀⁹60q^(−1/2)dq=[120√q]₀⁹=360; payment180; CS180।
Numerical 19: Unit elasticity: finite change, divergent level
दिया गया (Given): Q(P)=100/P; P₀20,P₁10; globally unit-elastic model।
Gain=∫₁₀²⁰Q(P)dP; inverse demand P(q)=100/q।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Q₀=5 औरQ₁=10। Finite gain=∫₁₀²⁰(100/P)dP=100 ln(20/10)=100 ln2।
- Step 2: Numerically ln2≈0.693147 ⇒ gain≈₹69.31।
- Step 3: Absolute CS atQ10 requires ∫₀¹⁰100/q dq; lower limit0 पर logarithm diverges।
Numerical 20: Per-unit tax: पूरा welfare account
प्रश्न (Question): Demand P_c=100−Q,supply P_p=20+Q। New Q,prices,CS,PS,tax revenue और DWL निकालिए।
(Given): Tax t20; P_c−P_p=20; competitive supply as MC; no externalities।
Equate demand=net supply price+tax; TS=CS+PS+tax revenue; DWL=½t(Q₀−Q_t)।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: No tax:100−Q=20+Q ⇒ Q₀40,P₀60; CS₀800,PS₀800,TS₀1600।
- Step 2: With tax:100−Q=20+Q+20 ⇒ Q_t30; P_c70,P_p50।
- Step 3: CS=½×(100−70)×30=450; PS=½×(50−20)×30=450; tax revenue20×30=600।
- Step 4: TS_t=450+450+600=1500; DWL1600−1500=100। Check½×20×(40−30)=100।
Numerical 21: Subsidy: fiscal cost subtract करें
प्रश्न (Question): Same demand P_c=100−Q,supply P_p=20+Q में government₹20 per-unit subsidy देती है। Net welfare effect निकालिए।
(Given): Subsidy s20; P_p−P_c=20; no externalities; public spending
Demand=producer supply price−subsidy; net TS=CS+PS−sQ।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: 100−Q=20+Q−20 ⇒ Q_s50। P_c50,P_p70।
- Step 2: CS=½×(100−50)×50=1250; PS=½×(70−20)×50=1250।
- Step 3: Government cost=20×50=1000; net TS=1250+1250−1000=1500।
- Step 4: Original TS1600; DWL100=½×20×(50−40)।
Numerical 22: Price ceiling: actual sales और rationing
(Given): Ceiling40; efficient rationing; no queue costs or black-market payments।
Actual Q=min(Q_d,Q_s); CS=∫₀Q_actual P_D(q)dq−P_ceiling×Q_actual।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: AtP40:Q_d60; Q_s20। Actual sales20; shortage40 units।
- Step 2: Highest-WTP20 buyers का gross benefit=∫₀²⁰(100−q)dq=2000−200=1800।
- Step 3: Payment=40×20=800; CS=1800−800=1000।
उत्तर (Final answer): Actual sales20; shortage40; CS₹1000 under stated efficient rationing।
Numericals23–30: Monopoly, Pricing and Hicksian Welfare
Numerical 23: Uniform monopoly: loss बनाम transfer
प्रश्न (Question): Inverse demand P=100−Q और MC=₹20 constant है; fixed cost0। Uniform-price monopoly और competition के CS compare करें; monopoly DWL निकालिए।
दिया गया (Given): P100−Q; MR100−2Q; MC20; no externalities।
Monopoly:MR=MC; competition:P=MC; CS triangles; DWL lost demand–MC area।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Monopoly:100−2Q=20 ⇒ Q_m40; P_m60। CS_m=½×40×40=800।
- Step 2: Competition:100−Q=20 ⇒ Q_c80,P_c20। CS_c=½×80×80=3200।
- Step 3: Monopoly profit=(60−20)×40=1600; CS lost3200−800=2400।
- Step 4: DWL=½×(80−40)×(60−20)=800। Lost CS2400=producer transfer1600+DWL800।
उत्तर (Final answer): CS_m800 vs CS_c3200; monopoly DWL800 and transfer1600।
Numerical 24: Perfect first-degree discrimination
प्रश्न (Question): Same P=100−Q,MC20,FC0 में monopolist हर unit की exact WTP charge करता है। Output,CS,profit और TS निकालिए।
(Given): Perfect information, no resale, every incremental WTP fully extracted; standard efficient-output model।
Last-unit WTP=MC; TR=∫₀Q P(q)dq; CS0; profit=TR−20Q।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Efficient quantity:100−Q=20 ⇒ Q=80।
- Step 2: TR=∫₀⁸⁰(100−q)dq=8000−3200=4800।
- Step 3: Cost=20×80=1600; profit=4800−1600=3200।
- Step 4: CS0; PS=profit3200 because FC0; TS3200। Relative to uniform monopoly TS2400, efficiency gain800।
Numerical 25: Two-part tariff: maximum entry fee
(Given): Unit price p4; access fee F; one consumer; no resale; participation when net surplus≥0।
Gross usage CS=½(choke−p)Q; maximum F=usage CS।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Q=20−4=16। Fee से पहले usage CS=½×16×16=128।
- Step 2: Maximum acceptable fee F=₹128। Net consumer surplus128−128=0; buyer indifferent है।
- Step 3: Revenue=4×16+128=192; cost4×16=64; profit128।
उत्तर (Final answer): F_max₹128; Q16; net CS0; seller profit₹128, given tie-entry assumption।
Numerical 26: Expenditure function derive करें
प्रश्न (Question): Utility u=√(xy),prices p_x=4,p_y=1 और target u=10। Minimum expenditure और Hicksian bundle निकालिए।
दिया गया (Given): Target xy=100; prices4 and1; x,y>0।
Cost min:4x+y subject to xy100; interior MRS=y/x=p_x/p_y; e(p,u)=2u√p।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Tangency y/x=4 ⇒ y=4x। Target xy100 ⇒4x²=100 ⇒x=5,y=20।
- Step 2: Expenditure=4×5+20=₹40।
- Step 3: Function check:e(4,10)=2×10×√4=40; Hicksian x=u/√p=5,y=u√p=20।
उत्तर (Final answer): Minimum spending₹40; Hicksian bundle(x5,y20)।
Compensating Variation
Price rise के बाद old utility restore करने का CV निकालिए।
दिया गया (Given): p₀1,p₁4,m100; e(p,u)=2u√p; initial u₀=m/(2√p₀)।
CV_loss=e(p₁,u₀)−m; compensation new prices पर दी जाती है।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Initial bundle:x₀=100/(2×1)=50,y₀50; u₀=√2500=50।
- Step 2: Old utility at new prices:e(4,50)=2×50×2=200।
- Step 3: CV_loss=200−100=₹100। Compensated total income200।
- Step 4: New-price compensated bundle:x=200/(2×4)=25,y=100; utility√2500=50 restored।
उत्तर (Final answer): CV_loss₹100; new prices पर₹100 extra दें।
Numerical 28: Same price rise का Equivalent Variation
Old prices पर कितना income loss new lower utility के equivalent होगा?
दिया गया (Given): u=√xy; final utility u₁=m/(2√4)=25; original price p₀1।
EV_loss=m−e(p₀,u₁); equivalent income reduction old prices
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Actual new bundle:x₁=100/8=12.5,y₁50; u₁=√625=25।
- Step 2: Old prices पर u₁ का minimum cost:e(1,25)=2×25×1=50।
- Step 3: EV_loss=100−50=₹50।
- Step 4: Old prices पर income50 होने से x25,y25,utility25; actual price-rise utility के बराबर।
फिर reverse price fall4→1 at income100 की gain ordering बताइए।
दिया गया (Given): Ordinary x(p,m)=50/p; price-rise CV100,EV50; ln4≈1.386294।
Ordinary CS loss=∫₁⁴50/p dp; gain/loss positive magnitudes में compare करें।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Price-rise ordinary loss=50[ln p]₁⁴=50 ln4≈₹69.31।
- Step 2: Rise ordering:CV100 > CS loss69.31 > EV50। Price-rise signed ΔCS=−69.31 होगा।
- Step 3: Reverse fall4→1:initial utility25,final50। CV_gain=100−e(1,25)=50; EV_gain=e(4,50)−100=100।
- Step 4: Ordinary gain=50 ln4≈69.31; fall ordering EV100 > gain69.31 > CV50।
उत्तर (Final answer): Rise losses:100>69.31>50। Fall gains:EV100>69.31>CV50।
Numerical 30: Quasilinear case: CV=EV=CS change
प्रश्न (Question): Utility u=20x−x²/2+y,m₹200,p_y1। x,ordinary CS loss,CV औरEV निकालिए; y≥0 interior throughout।
(Given): v(x)=20x−x²/2; v′=20−x; initial p6,new p10,m200।
x=20−p; e(p,u)=u−(20−p)²/2, relevant interior range; ΔCS area between prices।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Atp6:x₀14,y₀200−6×14=116,u₀280−98+116=298। Atp10:x₁10,y₁100,u₁200−50+100=250।
- Step 2: CS loss=∫₆¹⁰(20−p)dp=[20p−p²/2]₆¹⁰=150−102=48।
- Step 3: CV_loss=e(10,298)−200=(298−50)−200=48।
- Step 4: EV_loss=200−e(6,250)=200−(250−98)=48। Compensated/equivalent y positive हैं; interior condition holds।
उत्तर (Final answer): x14→10; ordinary CS loss=CV_loss=EV_loss=₹48।
8. ⚠️ Exam Traps + Final Revision
- Triangle तभी: linear demand और relevant allocation/quantity conditions check करें।
- Direct demand slope: Q=A−BP
- Last unit: zero marginal surplus ≠ zero total surplus।
- Price-change area: rectangle-only shortcut extra units
- More elastic / flatter: CS comparison intercept, price
| Question trigger | Recall |
|---|---|
| WTP and payment | CS=WTP−payment। |
| Discrete monetary MUs | ΣMUᵢ−Pn; चुनी units की संख्या check करें। |
| Utility in utils | CS=TU/λ−PQ; constant λ |
| P=a−bQ | Q=(a−P)/b; CS=(a−P)Q/2=bQ²/2। |
| Q=A−BP | Choke price A/B; CS=Q²/(2B)। |
| Curved inverse demand | CS=∫₀Q P(q)dq−PQ। |
| Linear price cut | Gain=½(Q₀+Q₁)(P₀−P₁)। |
| Tax / subsidy | TS include revenue / subtract fiscal cost। |
| Normal-good price rise | Positive losses: CV≥CS loss≥EV। |
| Normal-good price fall | Positive gains: EV≥CS gain≥CV। |
| Quasilinear, interior range | No income effect; CV=EV=|ΔCS|। |
| Producer surplus | π=PS−FC, appropriate cost model में। |
