Syllabus connection: UP PGT UGC NET में यह Theory of Consumer Behaviour के अंतर्गत पढ़ें।
1. Basic idea, notation और assumptions ⭐
Bundle = goods की quantities का combination; जैसे A=(4,2) में X की4 और Y की2 units। Price vector p=(2,1) में X की price2 और Y की price1। Bundle A का खर्च p·A=2×4+1×2=10। Budget set में p·x≤m वाले available bundles आते हैं। Line पर equality, अंदर strict inequality, बाहर cost>m।
Strict affordability relation: A Pᴰ B अगर pᴬ·B<pᴬ·A।
Indirect revealed preference: A Rᴰ B, B Rᴰ C … ऐसी chain से A R C।
| Assumption | Simple meaning |
|---|---|
| Choice is optimizing | Observed choice |
| Prices positive; quantities nonnegative | Standard finite-data Afriat setting। |

WARP — Weak Axiom of Revealed Preference
इस post में basic exam questions के लिए single-valued / unique-choice textbook convention है: अलग bundles A और B में A Rᴰ B मिला, तो B chosen observation में A affordable नहीं होना चाहिए।
SARP — Strong Axiom of Revealed Preference
A R B किसी chain से मिला और A≠B, तो B Rᴰ A नहीं होना चाहिए। A→B→C→A
GARP — Generalized Axiom of Revealed Preference
A R B की weak chain के बाद B वाला budget A को strictly cheaper नहीं बना सकता।
Violation: A R B तथा pᴮ·A<pᴮ·B। यही B Pᴰ A है।
| Axiom | क्या check करें? | Ties / cycles |
|---|---|---|
| WARP, stated convention | हर pair की direct affordability | Distinct bundles में mutual weak direct edges forbidden। |
| SARP | Chains और distinct-bundle reverse edges | Weak cycles भी forbidden। |
| GARP | Weak chains + strictly affordable reverse edge | Only weak cycle allowed; strict edge वाला cycle forbidden। |
- Closure: A→B और B→C को जोड़कर indirect A→C भी mark करें।
- SARP / GARP: SARP में distinct cycle; GARP में weak chain के बाद strict reverse affordability देखें।
Memory trick — C–D–A–C: Cost matrix → Diagonal → Arrows → Cycles।
5. Demand law, Slutsky compensation और Giffen trap ⭐
पुरानी choice x⁰ है। Prices p⁰ से p¹ हो जाएँ तो Slutsky-compensated income mˢ=p¹·x⁰ रखें: old bundle नई prices पर just affordable होगा। Income adjustment Δm=(p¹−p⁰)·x⁰ है। फिर xˢ=x(p¹,mˢ) और actual fixed-income choice x¹=x(p¹,m⁰) तुलना करें।
Compensated law: (p¹−p⁰)·(xˢ−x⁰)≤0।
Why? New compensated budget पर old bundle उपलब्ध है, इसलिए नई choice old choice से weakly revealed preferred है।
| Slutsky compensation | Hicks compensation |
|---|---|
| Old bundle की purchasing power unchanged | Old utility level unchanged |
| mˢ=p¹·x⁰ | mʰ=e(p¹,u⁰), minimum expenditure to reach old utility |
| Finite price change पर reoptimized utility old level से अधिक हो सकती है | Compensated optimum old indifference curve पर रहता है |
| पहले old bundle को price करें | Expenditure minimization problem solve करें |
∂xᵢ/∂pⱼ = ∂hᵢ/∂pⱼ − xⱼ(∂xᵢ/∂m)।
Own-price: ∂hₓ/∂pₓ = ∂x/∂pₓ + x(∂x/∂m) ≤0 under standard utility-maximization conditions।
Normal good: ∂x/∂m>0; ordinary own-price response nonpositive। Inferior good: ∂x/∂m<0; positive ordinary income-effect component price rise में possible। Giffen good: inferior income effect negative substitution effect
6. Revealed welfare और price indices
New choice के समय old bundle affordable है तो new bundle revealed no worse है। Old choice के समय new bundle affordable था तो old bundle revealed no worse है।
m¹/m⁰≥Pᴸ ⇒ old bundle new budget में affordable ⇒ x¹ Rᴰ x⁰।
Paasche Pᴾ=(p¹·x¹)/(p⁰·x¹), current quantities।
m¹/m⁰≤Pᴾ ⇒ new bundle old budget में affordable ⇒ x⁰ Rᴰ x¹।
ये sufficient affordability-based comparisons हैं।
Uˢ ≤ Uᵗ + λᵗpᵗ·(xˢ−xᵗ), λᵗ>0।
Constructed utility:
u(z)=minₜ{Uᵗ+λᵗpᵗ·(z−xᵗ)}।
8. 30 Book-style Solved Numericals
Numericals 1–8: Costs, Affordability and WARP
Numerical 1: Bundle
दिया गया (Given): p=(4,2); A=(3,5)।
p·A = pₓAₓ + pᵧAᵧ।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: X का खर्च = 4×3 = ₹12।
- Step 2: Y का खर्च = 2×5 = ₹10।
- Step 3: Total cost = 12+10 = ₹22।
उत्तर (Final answer): Bundle A की cost = ₹22।
B=(2,3), C=(5,2) और D=(1,8) में किन पर A directly revealed preferred है?
दिया गया (Given): Chosen A की cost=2×4+1×2=₹10; सभी bundles available हैं।
A Rᴰ Z अगर p·Z ≤ p·A। Strict affordability में p·Z < p·A।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: B की cost=2×2+3=₹7; 7<10, इसलिए A Rᴰ B और comparison strict है।
- Step 3: D की cost=2×1+8=₹10; 10≤10, इसलिए A Rᴰ D, लेकिन strict affordability नहीं है।
(Final answer): A directly revealed preferred to B
क्या A strictly revealed preferred है?
दिया गया (Given): A=(3,4); B=(4,2); p=(2,1); दोनों available।
Weak direct RP: p·B≤p·A; strict direct RP: p·B<p·A।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: A की cost=2×3+4=₹10।
उत्तर (Final answer): A Rᴰ B मिलता है; strict affordability वाला A Pᴰ B नहीं मिलता।
(Given): Chosen A=(4,2), B=(2,7), p=(2,1), m=10।
Affordability test: p·B≤m।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: A की cost=2×4+2=₹10।
प्रश्न (Question): Observation 1: pᴬ=(2,1), chosen A=(4,2)। Observation 2: pᴮ=(1,1), chosen B=(2,3)। Textbook unique-choice WARP जाँचिए।
दिया गया (Given): mᴬ=10; mᴮ=5; A और B अलग bundles हैं।
अगर A Rᴰ B, तो WARP के लिए pᴮ·A > pᴮ·B होना चाहिए।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Prices pᴬ पर A cost=10 और B cost=2×2+3=7; इसलिए A Rᴰ B।
- Step 2: Prices pᴮ पर B cost=2+3=5; A cost=4+2=6।
दिया गया (Given): mᴬ=10; mᴮ=8।
(Solution):
- Step 1: pᴬ·A=10; pᴬ·B=7<10, इसलिए A strictly directly revealed preferred to B।
- Step 2: pᴮ·B=8; pᴮ·A=8≤8, इसलिए B Rᴰ A।
- Step 3: Cycle A→B→A है; पहली edge strict है।
यहाँ A को B से strictly ऊपर रखना पड़ेगा, लेकिन दूसरी observation B को A से weakly ऊपर रखती है।
प्रश्न (Question): A=(3,4), pᴬ=(2,1) तथा B=(4,2), pᴮ=(1,1) chosen observations हैं।
दिया गया (Given): mᴬ=10; mᴮ=6।
A Rᴰ B ⇒ दूसरी observation में A को unaffordable होना चाहिए, अगर unique-choice WARP लागू है।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: pᴬ·A=10 और pᴬ·B=10; इसलिए weak A Rᴰ B।
- Step 2: pᴮ·B=6 और pᴮ·A=7।
- Step 3: 7>6, इसलिए B Rᴰ A नहीं है।
WARP condition
दिया गया (Given): mᴬ=8; mᴮ=2k+3; chosen bundles अलग हैं।
A Rᴰ B होने पर pᴮ·A>pᴮ·B।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: pᴬ·A=8; pᴬ·B=7<8; इसलिए A Rᴰ B strict है।
- Step 2: pᴮ·A=3k+2; pᴮ·B=2k+3।
- Step 3: WARP: 3k+2>2k+3 ⇒ k>1।
Numericals 9–15: Matrices, Cycles and Restrictions
Numerical 9: 3×3 expenditure matrix
Rows=prices A,B,C; columns=bundles A,B,C।
| Prices ↓ / bundle → | A | B | C |
|---|---|---|---|
| pA | 3 | 2 | 1 |
| pB | 4 | 3 | 2 |
| pC | 4 | 5 | 3 |
Eₜₛ=pᵗ·xˢ; row t में Eₜₛ≤Eₜₜ होने पर xᵗ Rᴰ xˢ।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Row A: costs (3,2,1); chosen expenditure=3; arrows A→B और A→C।
- Step 2: Row B: costs (4,3,2); chosen expenditure=3; arrow B→C।
- Step 3: Row C: costs (4,5,3); chosen expenditure=3; कोई outward arrow to A/B नहीं।
- Step 4: Matrix=[[3,2,1],[4,3,2],[4,5,3]]; ranking chain A→B→C में reverse cycle नहीं है।
(Final answer): Direct arrows: A→B, A→C, B→C।
Numerical 10: Indirect revealed preference: direct edge
प्रश्न (Question): A=(1,0,0), B=(0,1,0), C=(0,0,1) और respective prices (2,1,3), (3,2,1), (3,3,2) हैं।
(Given): All chosen expenditures=2; three goods।
| Prices ↓ / bundle → | A | B | C |
|---|---|---|---|
| pA | 2 | 1 | 3 |
| pB | 3 | 2 | 1 |
| pC | 3 | 3 | 2 |
A Rᴰ B और B Rᴰ C ⇒ A R C via transitive closure।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Row A costs=(2,1,3): A→B; A→C direct
- Step 2: Row B costs=(3,2,1): B→C।
- Step 3: Row C costs=(3,3,2): C से A/B affordable नहीं।
- Step 4: Chain A→B→C से indirect A R C मिलता है।
(Final answer): A indirectly revealed preferred to C; directly नहीं। WARP, SARP, GARP pass।
A वाले समय C afford नहीं था, फिर भी B के माध्यम से consistent preferences में A की C से ऊपर ranking निकल सकती है।
Numerical 11: WARP pass लेकिन SARP fail: तीन-good cycle
प्रश्न (Question): A=(1,0,0), B=(0,1,0), C=(0,0,1) और prices pᴬ=(2,1,3), pᴮ=(3,2,1), pᶜ=(1,3,2) हैं। WARP और SARP test कीजिए।
दिया गया (Given): Chosen expenditures 2,2,2; matrix rows=[[2,1,3],[3,2,1],[1,3,2]]।
| Prices ↓ / bundle → | A | B | C |
|---|---|---|---|
| pA | 2 | 1 | 3 |
| pB | 3 | 2 | 1 |
| pC | 1 | 3 | 2 |
WARP checks mutual direct edges; SARP checks cycles of any length between distinct bundles।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: A→B क्योंकि 1<2; B→A नहीं क्योंकि 3>2।
- Step 3: C→A क्योंकि 1<2; A→C नहीं क्योंकि 3>2।
- Step 4: किसी pair में mutual direct edges नहीं; लेकिन cycle A→B→C→A है।
Consumer A को B से, B को C से और C को A से ऊपर रख रही हैं।
Afriat contradiction
(Given): A→B→C→A; हर forward cost difference=1−2=−1; λᴬ,λᴮ,λᶜ>0।
Uˢ≤Uᵗ+λᵗ[pᵗ·xˢ−pᵗ·xᵗ]।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: A वाली inequality: Uᴮ≤Uᴬ−λᴬ।
- Step 2: B वाली inequality: Uᶜ≤Uᴮ−λᴮ।
- Step 3: C वाली inequality: Uᴬ≤Uᶜ−λᶜ।
- Step 4: तीनों जोड़ें: 0≤−(λᴬ+λᴮ+λᶜ)। Right side strictly negative है, इसलिए impossible।
Numerical 13: Only weak cycle: GARP ties
दिया गया (Given): A और B दोनों की cost दोनों dates पर ₹3 है; ties allowed in GARP framework।
| Prices ↓ / bundle → | A | B |
|---|---|---|
| pA | 3 | 3 |
| pB | 3 | 3 |
(Solution):
- Step 1: Cost matrix=[[3,3],[3,3]]; A→B और B→A दोनों weak edges।
- Step 3: u(x,y)=x+y लें। Budget x+y≤3 पर maximum utility=3; A और B दोनों maximizers हैं।
- Step 4: SARP distinct bundles का weak cycle रोकता है; इसलिए SARP fail। Textbook unique-choice WARP भी fail।
उत्तर (Final answer): GARP pass; SARP fail और stated unique-choice WARP fail।
Numerical 14: Price–income scaling: same budget
(Given): New p=(6,3), new m=30; stable preferences, unique choice assumed।
p·x≤m ⇔ (kp)·x≤km, k>0; demand homogeneous of degree zero।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Old budget: 2x+y≤10; intercepts X=5,Y=10।
- Step 2: New budget: 6x+3y≤30; तीन से divide करें: 2x+y≤10।
- Step 3: Feasible set unchanged; A cost at new prices=6×3+3×4=30।
उत्तर (Final answer): Intercepts 5 और 10; unique choice वही A=(3,4)।
Numerical 15: New bundle की permissible quantity range
(Question): Old observation: pᴬ=(2,1), income10, A=(4,2)। New budget: pᴮ=(1,2), income10, B=(b,(10−b)/2)।
दिया गया (Given): 0≤b≤10 से quantities nonnegative; A की new-price cost=8<10।
B Rᴰ A है। इसलिए A Rᴰ B नहीं होना चाहिए: pᴬ·B>pᴬ·A।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: New budget पर B cost=b+2×(10−b)/2=10; A cost=4+2×2=8।
- Step 2: Old prices पर B cost=2b+(10−b)/2=(3b+10)/2।
- Step 3: WARP के लिए (3b+10)/2>10 ⇒ 3b>10 ⇒ b>10/3।
- Step 4: Nonnegative bundle condition b≤10
Numericals 16–22: Compensation and Demand Effects
Numerical 16: Price fall: Slutsky compensation और decomposition
प्रश्न (Question): u(x,y)=xy, m=80, pᵧ=1।
दिया गया (Given): Equal expenditure shares: x=m/(2pₓ), y=m/(2pᵧ)। Initial prices (4,1)।
mˢ=p¹·x⁰; SE=x(p¹,mˢ)−x⁰; IE=x(p¹,m)−x(p¹,mˢ); TE=SE+IE।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Initial choice: x⁰=80/(2×4)=10; y⁰=80/2=40।
- Step 2: New prices पर old bundle cost=2×10+40=60। इसलिए mˢ=60; income adjustment=60−80=−20।
- Step 3: Compensated choice: xˢ=60/(2×2)=15; yˢ=30। Actual new choice: x¹=80/(2×2)=20; y¹=40।
- Step 4: SE=15−10=+5; IE=20−15=+5; TE=20−10=+10 units।
उत्तर (Final answer): Slutsky income ₹60; SE +5, IE +5, TE +10 units of X।
पहले ₹20 income वापस लेकर old bundle को just affordable रखते हैं; तब X की बढ़ी 5 units substitution effect हैं। Slutsky compensation old bundle की purchasing power रखता है, old utility exactly नहीं।
Numerical 17: Price rise: compensation और fractional effects
(Given): Initial bundle (10,40); new prices (6,1)।
mˢ=6×10+1×40; xˢ=mˢ/(2×6); actual x¹=80/(2×6)।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Old bundle की new-price cost=60+40=100; income adjustment +₹20।
- Step 2: Compensated xˢ=100/12=25/3; compensated yˢ=50।
- Step 3: Actual x¹=80/12=20/3; actual y¹=40।
- Step 4: SE=25/3−10=−5/3; IE=20/3−25/3=−5/3; TE=−10/3।
उत्तर (Final answer): mˢ=₹100; SE=−5/3, IE=−5/3, TE=−10/3 units।
प्रश्न (Question): Initial p⁰=(4,1), chosen A=(10,40), m⁰=80।
(Given): p¹·A=60; p¹·B=60; candidate X
Compensated law: (p¹−p⁰)·(B−A)≤0।
(Solution):
- Step 1: Old prices पर B cost=4×8+44=76<80; इसलिए A Pᴰ B।
- Step 2: New prices पर A और B दोनों की cost60; इसलिए B Rᴰ A।
- Step 3: Δp=(−2,0), Δx=(−2,4)। Dot product=(−2)×(−2)+0×4=+4>0।
उत्तर (Final answer): Candidate inconsistent: WARP/GARP fail और compensated law violated।
प्रश्न (Question): Initial p⁰=(2,1), A=(4,4), income12। New p¹=(1,2), compensated income p¹·A=12 पर B=(6,3) चुना गया। Compensated law जाँचिए।
दिया गया (Given): Δp=(−1,+1); Δx=(+2,−1)।
(Δp)·(Δx)≤0; सिर्फ एक good की quantity देखकर multi-price experiment judge नहीं करें।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: New cost of A=1×4+2×4=12; B cost=1×6+2×3=12।
- Step 2: Dot product=(−1)×2+(+1)×(−1)=−3।
- Step 3: Old prices पर B cost=2×6+3=15>12; A Rᴰ B नहीं। New observation में B Rᴰ A है।
प्रश्न (Question): Initial p⁰=(2,1), A=(4,4), income12। New p¹=(1,2), Slutsky income12 पर B=(2,5) candidate choice है।
दिया गया (Given): B की new cost=2+10=12; Δp=(−1,+1), Δx=(−2,+1)।
Compensated test: Δp·Δx≤0।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Dot product=(−1)×(−2)+(+1)×1=3>0।
- Step 2: Old-price B cost=2×2+5=9<12; A Pᴰ B।
- Step 3: New-price A cost=12, B cost=12; B Rᴰ A।
उत्तर (Final answer): Compensated law fail; GARP और stated WARP fail।
दिया गया (Given): Ordinary derivative positive; income derivative negative। सब derivatives same point पर evaluated हैं।
Slutsky: ∂h/∂pₓ = ∂x/∂pₓ + x(∂x/∂m)।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Income-effect term x(∂x/∂m)=10×(−0.1)=−1।
- Step 2: Compensated derivative=0.4−1=−0.6।
- Step 3: Ordinary derivative=−0.6−10×(−0.1)=+0.4, formula check।
Numerical 22: Local Slutsky equation: normal good
दिया गया (Given): दूसरे prices fixed; first-order approximation requested।
∂h/∂pₓ=∂x/∂pₓ+x∂x/∂m; ordinary change≈SE+IE।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Compensated derivative=−2+4×0.25=−1।
- Step 2: SE≈(−1)×0.1=−0.1 unit।
- Step 3: IE≈−x(∂x/∂m)Δpₓ=−4×0.25×0.1=−0.1 unit।
- Step 4: Total≈−2×0.1=−0.2; check −0.1−0.1=−0.2।
उत्तर (Final answer): Compensated derivative −1; SE≈−0.1, IE≈−0.1, total≈−0.2 unit।
यह small-change derivative exercise है; finite price change का exact decomposition नहीं। Normal good में price rise purchasing power घटाता है, इसलिए income effect भी demand घटाता है।
Numericals 23–30: Welfare Indices and Afriat
Numerical 23: Laspeyres test: old bundle अब भी affordable
(Question): Old p⁰=(2,1), A=(4,4), m⁰=12। New p¹=(3,1), B=(3,9), m¹=18। Laspeyres price index और revealed welfare direction निकालिए।
दिया गया (Given): Stable preferences; दोनों observations optimizing choices; strict welfare conclusion के लिए local nonsatiation।
Pᴸ=(p¹·A)/(p⁰·A)। अगर p¹·A≤m¹ तो B Rᴰ A।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Old expenditure=2×4+4=12। New prices पर old bundle cost=3×4+4=16।
- Step 2: Pᴸ=16/12=4/3≈1.3333; base100 पर 133.33।
- Step 3: Income ratio=m¹/m⁰=18/12=1.5; 1.5>4/3, इसलिए old bundle affordable है।
- Step 4: New choice B cost=3×3+9=18; old A cost16<18, इसलिए B Pᴰ A।
(Final answer): Laspeyres index133.33; new observed choice strictly revealed better under local nonsatiation।
Numerical 24: Paasche test: new bundle
प्रश्न (Question): Old p⁰=(2,1), A=(4,4), income12। New p¹=(3,1), B=(2,4), income10। Paasche index और revealed welfare direction निकालिए।
(Given): p¹·B=10; p⁰·A=12; stable optimizing consumer।
Pᴾ=(p¹·B)/(p⁰·B)। अगर p⁰·B<p⁰·A तो A Pᴰ B।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: Old prices पर new bundle cost=2×2+4=8।
- Step 2: Pᴾ=10/8=1.25; base100 पर125।
- Step 3: Old choice A cost12 है और B cost8<12; इसलिए A Pᴰ B।
(Final answer): Paasche index125; new observed bundle B strictly revealed worse than old A under local nonsatiation।
इससे old A की B पर strict revealed ranking मिलती है।
Numerical 25: Crossing budgets: welfare ranking not identified
प्रश्न (Question): Old pᴬ=(2,1), A=(2,4), income8। New pᴮ=(1,2), B=(4,2), income8।
दिया गया (Given): दोनों chosen costs ₹8; preferences stable।
(Solution):
- Step 1: pᴬ·B=2×4+2=10>8; A Rᴰ B नहीं।
- Step 2: pᴮ·A=2+2×4=10>8; B Rᴰ A नहीं।
WARP, SARP, GARP pass।
Numerical 26: Afriat inequalities: एक feasible solution
प्रश्न (Question): A=(2,1), pᴬ=(2,1); B=(1,1), pᴮ=(1,2)।
दिया गया (Given): Cost matrix=[[5,3],[4,3]]; multipliers positive।
| Prices ↓ / bundle → | A | B |
|---|---|---|
| pA | 5 | 3 |
| pB | 4 | 3 |
Uˢ≤Uᵗ+λᵗ(Eₜₛ−Eₜₜ), every pair t,s।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: A→B inequality: Uᴮ≤0+1×(3−5)=−2। Given Uᴮ=−2, equality holds।
- Step 2: B→A inequality: Uᴬ≤−2+2×(4−3)=0। Given Uᴬ=0, equality holds।
U values ordinal labels हैं; negative utility level allowed है और इसे loss in rupees न मानें।
Numerical 27: Unknown utility level की feasible interval
(Given): Uᴮ unknown; all other parameters fixed।
| Prices ↓ / bundle → | A | B |
|---|---|---|
| pA | 5 | 3 |
| pB | 4 | 3 |
A→B upper bound; B→A lower bound।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: A→B: Uᴮ≤0+1×(3−5)=−2।
- Step 2: B→A: 0≤Uᴮ+3×(4−3)=Uᴮ+3 ⇒ Uᴮ≥−3।
प्रश्न (Question): Same cost matrix [[5,3],[4,3]] में Uᴬ=0, λᴬ=2, λᴮ=1 रखें।
| Prices ↓ / bundle → | A | B |
|---|---|---|
| pA | 5 | 3 |
| pB | 4 | 3 |
Afriat theorem: some feasible U,λ exist;
(Solution):
- Step 1: A→B: Uᴮ≤0+2×(3−5)=−4।
- Step 2: B→A: 0≤Uᴮ+1×(4−3) ⇒ Uᴮ≥−1।
(Given): A=(2,1), pᴬ=(2,1); B=(1,1), pᴮ=(1,2)।
u(z)=minₜ{Uᵗ+λᵗpᵗ·(z−xᵗ)}।
हल (Solution):
- Step 1: A support=0+(2x+y−5)=2x+y−5।
- Step 2: B support=−2+2(x+2y−3)=2x+4y−8। इसलिए u(x,y)=min{2x+y−5,2x+4y−8}।
- Step 3: u(A)=min{0,0}=0; u(B)=min{−2,−2}=−2।
- Step 4: Z=(1,2) पर supports −1 और2 हैं; u(Z)=min{−1,2}=−1।
उत्तर (Final answer): इस reconstructed utility में u(A)=0>u(Z)=−1>u(B)=−2।
प्रश्न (Question): pᴬ=pᴮ=pᶜ=(1,1) पर A=(1,1), B=(2,1), C=(2,2) चुने गए; incomes2,3,4 हैं। U=(0,1,2), सभी λ=1 जाँचें। Constructed u=x+y−2 से p=(2,1), income6 पर choice निकालिए।
दिया गया (Given): Observed expenditures2,3,4; counterfactual prediction specifically constructed u के लिए है।
| Prices ↓ / bundle → | A | B | C |
|---|---|---|---|
| pA | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| pB | 2 | 3 | 4 |
| pC | 2 | 3 | 4 |
Afriat: Uˢ≤Uᵗ+(xˢₓ+xˢᵧ−xᵗₓ−xᵗᵧ)। Prediction: maximize x+y−2 subject to2x+y≤6।
हल (Solution):
- Step 2: Direct edges C→B,C→A,B→A हैं; reverse edges नहीं। WARP,SARP,GARP pass।
- Step 3: New budget पर one rupee से X की1/2 unit या Y की1 unit मिलती है; linear utility में Y अधिक utility per rupee देती है।
- Step 4: इस u का optimum x=0,y=6; total cost6 और u=6−2=4।
उत्तर (Final answer): Certificate valid। Constructed utility के अनुसार new choice=(0,6), utility4।
“GARP pass ⇒ true utility और future demand uniquely identified” exam trap है।
9. ⚠️ Exam Traps और Final Revision

| mˢ vs mʰ | Slutsky old bundle; Hicks old utility। |
| Giffen | Ordinary upward possible; compensated own-price response nonpositive। |
| PL / PP | Laspeyres old quantities; Paasche new quantities। |
