Cambridge Cash-Balance Equation
Income, desired holding ratio और money supply से price level/equilibrium balances निकालें।
Worked example: Mˢ=300, k=0.25, real income Y=1,200 → P=300/(.25×1200) = 1।
Interpretation: At given M,Y, higher k means more desired balances per unit of nominal income; equilibrium P lower
k and Income Velocity
Matching income equation MVᵧ=PY में velocity और holding fraction convert करें।
Worked example: k=.20 → Vᵧ=5 turnovers per income period। k=.25 हो तो Vᵧ=4।
Interpretation: यह reciprocal relation same money/income/time definitions पर है; Fisher के transaction velocity Vₜ और income velocity Vᵧ को automatically identical न मानें।
| Dimension | Fisher transaction approach | Cambridge cash-balance approach |
|---|---|---|
| Focus | Money spent / circulation | Money held / desired balances |
| Main equation | MVₜ=PT | Mᵈ=kPY |
| Scale variable | Transaction volume T | Real income Y |
| Behavioural emphasis | Turnover / exchange | Holding preference k |
| Price result under restrictions | Fixed Vₜ,T: P ∝ M | Fixed k,Y: P ∝ M |
- If nominal income PY is supplied directly, Mᵈ=k×nominal income; price level
- Demand-for-money graph: fixed k,Y पर Mᵈ=kYP, इसलिए price level और nominal balances का positive relation; equilibrium given vertical money supply पर।
Active Recall / Writing Practice
- Given M,Y fixed, k

Memory recap: Cambridge holds: Md=kPY; same-definition income velocity=1/k।

Your Revision Result
Your answer: · Correct answer: C. 300
M=.25×1×1200=300; k holding fraction है।
Your answer: · Correct answer: B. 400
Nominal income already given है: Md=.20×2000=400; P फिर multiply न करें।
Your answer: · Correct answer: D. 5
Vᵧ=1/k=1/.20=5; matching money, income और time definitions आवश्यक हैं।
Your answer: · Correct answer: B. 25% rise
P inverse k है; P1/P0=.25/.20=1.25 →25% rise।
Your answer: · Correct answer: D. 16.67% fall
P1/P0=1/1.20=.83333 →16.67% fall।
Your answer: · Correct answer: A. 2
P=M/(kY)=200/(.20×500)=2।
Your answer: · Correct answer: B. 0.20
k=Md/(PY)=300/1500=.20।
Your answer: · Correct answer: A. Marshall and Pigou
Marshall और Pigou Cambridge cash-balances से जुड़े हैं; other pairs growth/trade contexts से हैं।
Your answer: · Correct answer: B. 10% higher
P=M/(kY); denominator fixed होने से P same proportion में बढ़ता है।
Your answer: · Correct answer: A. V matching income velocity हो, arbitrary transaction velocity नहीं
MVy=PY और Md=kPY matching definitions पर reciprocal relation देते हैं; Fisher transaction denominator different हो सकता है।
Your answer: · Correct answer: D. Fisher circulation/spending; Cambridge desired holdings
Cambridge cash balances demand to hold money पर, Fisher transaction turnover पर emphasis करती है।
Your answer: · Correct answer: D. 1.5 से 1
Old P300/(.2×1000)=1.5; new300/(.3×1000)=1।
