| Conventional Indian aggregate | Components / definition |
|---|---|
| M₀ / reserve money | Currency in circulation + bankers’ deposits with RBI + other deposits with RBI |
| M₁ / narrow money | Currency with public + demand deposits with banking system + other deposits with RBI |
| M₂ | M₁ + savings deposits with post-office savings banks |
| M₃ / broad money | M₁ + time deposits with banking system |
| M₄ | M₃ + all deposits with post-office savings banks, excluding National Savings Certificates |
These are conventional M aggregates; do not mix them with separately defined NM/liquidity aggregates. Currency in circulation includes bank vault cash; currency with public excludes that vault cash।
Simplified Money Multiplier
Elementary model में C=public currency, D=eligible demand deposits, R=total bank reserves, c=C/D, r=R/D और H=C+R हों। Other RBI deposits are omitted in this simplified model.
Worked example: H=200, c=.20, r=.10 → m=1.20/.30=4 → M=800। D=200/.30=666.67, C=133.33, R=66.67।
- Determinants: monetary base; public currency preference c; banks’ required plus excess reserve ratio r; lending demand, capital constraints और policy/institutional conditions।
- For fixed H and 0≤r<1, higher c lowers this model’s multiplier; higher r also lowers it. A fall in multiplier can offset a rise in base।
- Deposits public से public transfer करने या cash को deposit में बदलने से narrow money mechanically fresh amount से नहीं बढ़ता; new lending and balance-sheet changes अलग analyse करें।

Active Recall / Writing Practice
Review next day, third day और seventh day.
Memory recap: Define aggregate first; simplified M=mH; public cash and bank reserves matter।

Your Revision Result
Your answer: · Correct answer: C. 710
M1=200+500+10=710; other RBI deposits को stated aggregate में शामिल करें।
Your answer: · Correct answer: B. 1,710
M3=M1+time deposits=710+1000=1710।
Your answer: · Correct answer: B. 1,210
M0=1000+200+10=1210; currency with public और in circulation definitions अलग हैं।
Your answer: · Correct answer: D. 4
m=(1+c)/(c+r)=1.20/.30=4; r total reserve/deposit ratio है।
Your answer: · Correct answer: C. 800
Your answer: · Correct answer: C. 2.5
m=1.50/.60=2.5; public currency leakage multiplier बदलती है।
Your answer: · Correct answer: A. 5
m=(1+0)/(0+.20)=5; this is special case1/r।
Your answer: · Correct answer: B. 3
m=M/H=900/300=3, not difference600।
Your answer: · Correct answer: B.
Your answer: · Correct answer: B. Total reserve/deposit ratio under stated model
Required plus excess reserve holdings relevant हैं; model r को automatically official CRR के equal न रखें।
Your answer: · Correct answer: A. 850
Public currency=circulation−banks’ vault cash=1000−150=850।
Your answer: · Correct answer: C. 0
Cash-to-deposit conversion composition बदलता है, same instant monetary total नहीं, other changes absent।
